Two hundred young Nigerians have been equipped with practical technology skills following the successful completion of the NITDA Summer Training Programme and Free Long Vacation Young School Kids Coding Bootcamp held at the Federal Technical College, Yaba, Lagos.
The programme, organised by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) in collaboration with Cisco and UNITeS Academy, exposed participants to hands-on learning in coding, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), robotics, game development, animation and digital creativity.
Beyond technical skills, the bootcamp focused on developing participants’ problem-solving abilities, critical thinking and computational skills, providing them with practical knowledge needed to navigate an increasingly digital economy.
The initiative form part of broader efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s digital talent pipeline by empowering young people to move beyond being consumers of technology to becoming creators, innovators and problem-solvers.
During the programme, participants were encouraged to sustain their learning, explore new ideas and apply technology to real-world challenges in their communities.
The presentation of certificates marked the completion of the training, drawing excitement from the participants, parents and school authorities who described the experience as transformative.
The programme is expected to inspire more young Nigerians to pursue careers in technology, including as software developers, engineers, digital entrepreneurs, innovators and other professionals who can contribute to Nigeria’s digital future.
