The General Counsel of NNPC Limited, Adesua Dozie, has called for stronger and more effective arbitration frameworks to support the growing volume of cross-border commercial transactions in Africa.
Dozie made the call while serving as a panellist at the International Arbitration Seminar held at The Wheatbaker, Ikoyi, Lagos.
The session, themed “Managing Disputes in Cross-Border Business,” brought together legal and business experts to examine emerging trends, challenges and effective approaches to resolving disputes arising from international commercial transactions.

During the panel discussion, Dozie and other panellists explored key issues around investment protection, dispute resolution mechanisms and the increasing adoption of institutional arbitration across Africa.
They emphasised the importance of robust and predictable dispute-resolution systems in promoting investor confidence, protecting commercial interests and facilitating sustainable business relationships across borders.
The discussions also highlighted the need for businesses and policymakers to strengthen arbitration institutions and frameworks as African economies become increasingly integrated and cross-border investments continue to expand.
The seminar provided a platform for stakeholders to exchange perspectives on emerging arbitration practices and strategies for managing complex commercial disputes in an increasingly interconnected business environment.
