The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) has commissioned its first technology-powered self-service smart station in Abuja, marking a significant step in the transformation of Nigeria’s downstream petroleum retail sector.
The facility, located along Bill Clinton Drive, Airport Road, Abuja, was commissioned by NNPC Retail as part of efforts to introduce greater convenience, efficiency and technology-driven services into the retail energy market.

Speaking at the commissioning, Executive Vice President, Downstream, NNPC Ltd., Dr. Mumuni Dagazau, described the facility as a reflection of NNPC Retail’s commitment to innovation, operational efficiency and improved customer experience.
Dagazau commended the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) for providing the land and supporting the partnership that facilitated the development of the smart station.
The Managing Director of NNPC Retail, Mr. Huub Stokman, said the facility demonstrates the changes taking place in Nigeria’s downstream industry, noting that the company is focused on meeting growing consumer expectations for quality, speed, convenience and reliable service.
The 24-hour facility allowed customers to independently dispense fuel and complete transactions, giving motorists greater control over the quantity of fuel purchased.
Beyond fuel dispensing, the smart station features electric vehicle charging points, an automated car wash, lubricant service bay, LPG dispensing facilities and other lifestyle offerings. The company also plans to expand its energy solutions to include Compressed Natural Gas (CNG).
The commissioning represented a new chapter in NNPC Retail’s drive to transform conventional filling stations into smart energy, mobility and lifestyle destinations.
The company said the initiative would support its broader objective of delivering a more convenient, technology-driven and customer-focused retail experience to consumers across Nigeria.
