The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has honoured the Commander of the Corps’ Mining Marshals, Assistant Commandant Corps (ACC) Attah John Onoja, with a Meritorious Award for excellence and dedication to service.
The award was presented during the NSCDC National Armourers Retreat and Symposium in recognition of Onoja’s dedication, discipline, professionalism and unwavering commitment to national service.
The recognition underscored the importance of professionalism and excellence in the discharge of the Corps’ mandate, particularly in specialised areas of national security and protection of critical national assets.
Under Onoja’s leadership, the Mining Marshals have continued to play a prominent role in the fight against illegal mining and efforts to protect Nigeria’s mineral resources from activities capable of undermining the nation’s economic and environmental interests.
The Mining Marshals Commander, while appreciating the Commandant General for the honour, dedicated the award to officers and personnel of the Mining Marshals.
Onoja attributed the achievements recorded by the unit to teamwork, collective commitment and the sacrifices of personnel who continue to discharge their responsibilities in challenging circumstances.
He noted that the recognition would serve as further motivation for the Mining Marshals to intensify their efforts in tackling illegal mining and protecting the country’s natural resources.
The latest honour added to a growing number of recognitions received by ACC Onoja for his contributions to national service and his role in advancing the mandate of the Mining Marshals.
His leadership has continued to attract attention within the security and mining sectors, particularly as the Federal Government intensified efforts to curb illegal mining and strengthen the protection of Nigeria’s mineral assets.
The Mining Marshals have also continued to engage relevant stakeholders and security agencies in efforts to improve enforcement, promote responsible mining practices and safeguard mining communities and sites across the country.
For the Mining Marshals, the Meritorious Award is not only a recognition of past achievements but also a renewed call to greater commitment, professionalism and teamwork in the discharge of their mandate.
Onoja’s decision to dedicate the award to his team further highlighted the collective nature of the Mining Marshals’ operations, with the commander stressing that the successes recorded by the unit are products of shared responsibility and commitment.
As the campaign against illegal mining continues, the recognition of ACC Attah John Onoja by the NSCDC leadership is expected to further strengthen the resolve of the Mining Marshals to remain committed to the protection of Nigeria’s natural resources and national economic interests.
When service is exceptional, excellence speaks and recognition follows.
