The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has sanctioned 79 personnel for various acts of professional misconduct and arrested 12 suspects over alleged involvement in critical national infrastructure vandalism and illegal arms dealing, reaffirming its commitment to discipline, accountability and national security.
The National Public Relations Officer of the Corps, Assistant Commandant of Corps Babawale Afolabi, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, saying the actions reflected the determination of the Commandant General, Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, OFR, to uphold institutional transparency, public safety and a zero-tolerance policy for compromise within the Service.
According to Afolabi, disciplinary proceedings conducted in line with the Public Service Rules and the NSCDC Conditions of Service resulted in sanctions against 75 officers. Those affected include one Assistant Commandant General (ACG), two Deputy Commandants (DC), 35 other senior officers and 37 junior officers.
The Corps said the officers were found culpable of offences ranging from job racketeering, financial misconduct, theft and absence without official leave to acts considered prejudicial to state security. The sanctions imposed include dismissal, compulsory retirement and recommendations for criminal prosecution.
Among the cases concluded was the operational incident of February 18, 2026, at Rafin Gabas in Kokona Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, which resulted in the death of Mining Marshals Location Commander, Levi Agada.
Investigations, according to the NSCDC, established that two personnel, Hosea Habila and Jibrin Labaran, engaged suspected illegal miners with firearms without authorisation during the operation. Both officers have been dismissed from the Service and recommended for criminal prosecution.
The Corps also disclosed that four personnel are currently undergoing disciplinary proceedings being handled by the Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad (CG’s SIS) in collaboration with the Nigerian Army Corps of Military Police over alleged involvement in illegal arms dealing.
The affected officers include Superintendent Tesie Victor Nnamdi of the Enugu State Command, Assistant Superintendent II Okwuruinya Uchenna of the Ebonyi State Command, Assistant Superintendent II Obaji Sampson of the Ebonyi State Command and Superintendent Achor Favour of the Nasarawa State Command.
While the first three officers are facing both internal disciplinary measures and legal prosecution over alleged illegal arms trafficking, Superintendent Achor Favour is undergoing administrative disciplinary proceedings following public concern over the alleged mistreatment and negligence of a teenage domestic helper, Mercy Hajara Muhammad.
In a related development, operatives of the CG’s Special Intelligence Squad arrested nine suspects linked to illegal firearms and ammunition trafficking across Ebonyi, Enugu, Kogi, Niger states and the Federal Capital Territory.
The suspects were identified as Friday Nnanna Ujor, 51; Chika Sampson Nwozaku, 48; Nnanna Ujor Chinasa, 45; Nnanna Fountain; Nnanna Abundant Ifechukwu; and three serving NSCDC officers—SC Tesie Victor Nnamdi, ASCII Okwuruinya Uchenna and ASCII Obaji Sampson.
The Corps also intensified its operations against the vandalism of critical national assets and infrastructure, arresting six suspects allegedly caught with a full trailer load of vandalised railway sleepers at Sabon Wuse on July 25, 2026.
The railway sleepers were reportedly concealed in a blue DAF trailer bearing registration number ZAR 618 XT.
Similarly, two suspected members of a vandalism syndicate, Raphael Danjuma and Isaac Zegbe from Toto and Bassa Local Government Areas of Nasarawa State, were arrested for allegedly vandalising electrical installations and cables in Gwagwalada Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory.
The NSCDC stressed that the misconduct of the sanctioned personnel does not reflect the professionalism and dedication of the overwhelming majority of officers serving across the country.
The Corps added that all suspects and affected personnel remain entitled to their constitutional rights and due process as administrative and legal proceedings continue.
It also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue providing credible intelligence to support ongoing efforts to protect critical national assets and strengthen national security.
