PDP Guber Candidate Nami Vows to Go After Gov. Bago’s Alleged Assets in Nigeria, Abroad

The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Niger State, Dr. Mohammed Mamman Nami, has vowed to pursue the recovery of assets allegedly acquired with public funds by Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago if elected governor in 2027.

Nami said he would seek to recover landed properties allegedly acquired with Niger State taxpayers’ money both within Nigeria and abroad, insisting that his administration would uphold transparency, accountability and fairness in the management of public resources.

The PDP candidate made the disclosure during a thank-you visit to the party’s family and stakeholders in Minna, alongside his running mate, Alhaji Dahiru Danazumi Abdul.

He assured the party faithful that, if elected, he would justify the confidence reposed in him and the PDP.

“I will go all out after assets and landed properties he bought within his first term in office. He bought those landed properties with Niger State taxpayers’ money. If, by the grace of God, I’m voted into office as governor, I will retrieve all those properties,” Nami said.

He alleged that the properties were located in Abuja, Lagos, Dubai, Brazil, Washington in the United States and London, among other locations.

Nami said proceeds from any recovered assets would be channelled into the development of Niger State, adding that he would not betray the state, just as he claimed he did not betray Nigeria while serving as chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) under the late President Muhammadu Buhari.

The former FIRS chairman also criticised the condition of roads across the three senatorial districts of the state and the state of public infrastructure, saying his administration would review projects executed by the present government and seek to recover funds allegedly misappropriated or expended on what he described as deceptive projects.

He promised that his administration would prioritise education, healthcare, youth and women employment, agriculture, human development and water supply, while also improving the welfare of pensioners.

On insecurity, Nami expressed concern over the activities of bandits, including the persistent kidnapping of residents, killings and destruction of farmlands and property across the state.

He said the security challenges would be addressed if the PDP is given the mandate in 2027.

Nami also expressed concern over recent deaths in the state, including an incident at the Government House which he attributed to a directive by the governor to open the gate for citizens to collect money.

He linked the incident to other recent tragedies in the state, including the deaths of miners, and described the loss of lives as avoidable.

The PDP candidate urged residents to remain calm and peaceful, called on them to shun protests and instead use their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to determine the leadership of the state in the 2027 election.
