The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has emerged as one of the country’s top-performing government agencies in trade facilitation after earning high marks in the 2025 Business Facilitation Act (BFA) Compliance Assessment conducted by the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC).
The assessment, released on Friday, showed that the NCS met all prescribed compliance standards and recorded significant improvements in the speed and responsiveness of its trade-related services, placing it among the highest-performing Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) evaluated.
Speaking on the report, PEBEC Director-General, Zahrah Audu, said the Nigeria Customs Service distinguished itself by fully complying with the requirements of the Business Facilitation Act while enhancing the efficiency and timeliness of its trade-related operations.
According to her, the achievement reflects the Service’s commitment to transparency, operational excellence and the creation of a more business-friendly trading environment, in line with the Federal Government’s Ease of Doing Business agenda.
Audu also revealed that 98 per cent of the 69 MDAs assessed under the Business Facilitation Act now meet the expected service delivery standards, describing the outcome as evidence that the ongoing reforms are yielding positive results across government institutions.
The recognition wat coming on the heels of a series of reforms introduced by the Nigeria Customs Service to modernise customs administration and facilitate trade. Among the key initiatives are the B’Odogwu Unified Customs Management System, the Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) Programme and the Advance Ruling System.
The reforms have streamlined import and export processes, reduced cargo clearance delays, enhanced transparency and improved the overall efficiency of customs operations, reinforcing the Service’s role in supporting trade, investment and Nigeria’s economic growth.
