The Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), FCT Chapter, has empowered 110 police wives and widows in Abuja as part of efforts to strengthen the welfare and economic wellbeing of families of serving and fallen police officers.
The empowerment programme was held on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at the FCT POWA Secretariat, Utako, Abuja, under the theme, “Empowered Women, Stronger Families, Stronger Society.” It was organised by the Chairperson of POWA FCT Chapter, Hajiya Maimuna Muhammed Sanusi.
The initiative was designed to provide beneficiaries with support and opportunities to improve their livelihoods, strengthen their families and contribute meaningfully to society.
Speaking at the event, Hajiya Maimuna Muhammed Sanusi said POWA, under the national leadership of Chief Mrs. Mutiat Olufunmilola Disu, remained committed to promoting the welfare, empowerment and dignity of police wives and widows.
She explained that the empowerment initiative was part of the association’s broader efforts to equip women within the police family with the necessary support and opportunities to become self-sufficient.
According to her, POWA would continue to initiate programmes aimed at strengthening families and enhancing the wellbeing of its members.
In his opening remarks, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, PhD, FCAI, commended the FCT POWA Chapter for its commitment to the welfare and empowerment of police families.

The FCT Police Command appreciated the leadership and members of POWA FCT Chapter for the initiative, stressing the importance of continued programmes that promote the welfare and self-reliance of members of the police family.
