The House of Representatives Committee on Public Petitions has adjourned further consideration of a petition by more than 400 law graduates of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) over challenges affecting their progression into the legal profession.

The committee, chaired by Hon. Dr. Anthony Matthew Nwogu, adjourned the matter to September 30, 2026, directed all parties involved to ensure that outstanding correspondence and responses are duly filed ahead of the next sitting.
Nwogu said the matter was of significant importance to a large number of people across the country, adding that the committee would take a decision after the third hearing.
He urged the parties to complete all necessary filings to enable members of the committee to thoroughly study the submissions before reaching a determination on the petition.
The petition, numbered 902, was filed by NOUN law graduates against the university, the Nigerian Law School and the Council for Legal Education.
The petitioners appeared before the committee at the first hearing led by Dr. Adeniyin Oladele, President of the NOUN Law Graduates.
Other representatives of the group included Nora John, Vice-President; Chibueze Kenneth Oboji, Public Relations Officer; and Dr. Oke H. Ofo, a member of the group.
The petition centres on an inter-agency agreement involving NOUN, the Nigerian Law School and the Council for Legal Education, with the graduates seeking resolution of issues they say are affecting their progression into the legal profession.
The committee consequently directed all parties to conclude their filings before the next hearing and adjourned further proceedings to September 30, 2026.
