The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has announced October 19, 2026, for its National Capital Market Conference, where key stakeholders are expected to deliberate on strategies to deepen Nigeria’s capital market and strengthen its contribution to economic development.
The conference, scheduled to take place at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, will feature the launch of the Nigerian Capital Market Master Plan 2.0 (NCMMP 2.0) and the National Savings Scheme.
The SEC said the conference would focus on strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing domestic resource mobilisation, increasing investor participation and supporting sustainable economic growth and national development.
Vice-President Kashim Shettima will serve as the Special Guest of Honour, while the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Professor Taiwo Oyedele, will be the Chief Host. The Director-General of the SEC, Dr. Emomotimi Agama, will host the event.
Speaking ahead of the conference, Agama described the Capital Market Master Plan 2.0 as a 10-year strategy designed to provide a framework for the continued development of Nigeria’s capital market.
He said the master plan would serve as a critical instrument for measuring the growth and development of the market, stressing that the endorsement of Vice-President Shettima would be important to its effective implementation.
On the National Savings Scheme, Agama said the initiative was primarily designed as an inclusion tool to provide Nigerians across different income groups with opportunities to save and invest for the future.
He added that tax incentives would be introduced to encourage participation in the scheme.
According to Agama, the initiative is aligned with the Federal Government’s fiscal policy direction, including tax relief for citizens earning below a specified income threshold, which he said would increase their disposable income and create greater capacity for savings and investment.
“The National Savings Scheme is principally an inclusion tool: every Nigerian is given the opportunity to save, and those savings will be invested for the future,” Agama said.
The conference will also feature the presentation of reports from the Capital Market Committee Technical Working Groups and the inauguration of the NCMMP 2.0 Project Steering Committee.
The Capital Market Master Plan Implementation Committee is also scheduled to be inaugurated at the event.
The SEC said the conference form part of broader efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s capital market, mobilise domestic resources and enhance the market’s role in driving sustainable economic growth and national development.
