The Senate has received a formal request from President Muhammadu Buhari, to confirm the nomination of Hon. Justice Olukayode Ariwoola as the Chief Justice of Nigeria. The request was contained in a letter dated 25th July, 2022, and read by the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, at the start of plenary on Tuesday. My attention was drawn to the sepatate calls made by the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) and the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) for the resignation or removal of the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN). The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Samuel Nkannu Walter Onnoghen has charged legal practitioners in the country to always resort to other alternatives to dispute resolution if pursuing a case in court will not be in the best interest of the society.
