TCN Announces Three-Hour Power Disruption in Abuja Over Gwagwalada Substation Maintenance

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a three-hour power disruption in parts of Abuja on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, to enable urgent maintenance work at its 330/132kV Gwagwalada Transmission Substation.

In a notice signed by the management of TCN, the maintenance exercise is scheduled to take place from 10am to 1pm.

According to the company, its maintenance crew will carry out urgent work on the 33kV, 6MVA earthing reactor at the Gwagwalada Transmission Substation.

TCN explained that the exercise will temporarily affect the ability of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) to off-take electricity for customers in several parts of the Federal Capital Territory.

Areas expected to be affected include Aso Villa, Asokoro, African Medical Center, Kabusa, EFAB Estate, Apo Resettlement, Zone E Extension, Trademoore and adjoining communities.

The transmission company said the maintenance was necessary to ensure the reliability and safety of its infrastructure.

TCN apologised to electricity customers in the affected areas for the inconvenience the temporary disruption may cause and assured the public that the exercise would be completed within the scheduled three-hour period.
