The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has commenced urgent rehabilitation works on the vandalised Towers J4 and N9 to N12 along the Ikot Abasi–Eket 132kV double-circuit transmission line in Akwa Ibom State.
The rehabilitation followed recent acts of vandalism that damaged critical components of the transmission infrastructure, prompting TCN to deploy contractors to restore the affected towers and strengthen the reliability of electricity transmission along the corridor.
During a site inspection on Friday, September 25, 2026, the Regional Manager, Port Harcourt Transmission Region, Engr. Nasir Bello, who was represented by the Assistant General Manager, Transmission, Dr. Ubani Raymond, said the inspection was aimed at ensuring strict compliance with engineering specifications and facilitating immediate adjustments where necessary.
Dr. Raymond said significant progress had been recorded, disclosing that the vandalised towers had been completely dismantled while their bases had been solidly recast in preparation for the reconstruction of the structures.
He urged residents of Ikot Abasi to remain vigilant and take an active role in protecting critical power infrastructure in their communities, warning against the activities of criminal elements targeting electricity installations.
Also speaking during the inspection, the Head of Lines, Port Harcourt Transmission Region, Engr. Azuh Lucky, stressed the importance of continuous monitoring to ensure that the rehabilitation works comply with approved engineering standards and meet the required quality.
Azuh commended TCN Management for engaging two contractors to accelerate the rehabilitation process, but noted that the difficult terrain and persistent rainfall had slowed down the pace of work.
The Principal Manager, Uyo Work Centre, Engr. Eguaikhide Clement, expressed satisfaction with the progress made so far, commending the contractors for their commitment and understanding of the urgency attached to the completion of the project.
TCN’s intervention is expected to facilitate the restoration and strengthening of the affected transmission infrastructure, while sustained community vigilance remains crucial to protecting the line from further vandalism.
