The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has confirmed the tripping of its 100MVA TR4 transformer at the Apo 132/33kV Transmission Substation in Abuja, leaving four 33kV feeders out of supply.
TCN made this known in an urgent notice issued on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, stating that the transformer tripped in the early hours of the day.
According to the transmission company, preliminary findings indicated oil spillage on the Red Phase high-voltage (HV) bushing of the transformer.
The development has consequently affected power supply through four 33kV feeders connected to the transformer, namely H31, H33, H35 and H37.
Customers of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) supplied through the affected feeders are expected to experience an interruption in electricity supply pending the restoration of the transformer.
TCN said its maintenance crew had commenced a detailed investigation of the transformer to ascertain the exact cause of the tripping and determine the necessary repairs.
The company assured affected AEDC customers that its engineers were working to effect repairs and restore bulk power supply through the affected transformer as quickly as possible.
“We regret the inconvenience this may cause Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) customers supplied from the affected feeders and assure that our engineers are doing everything possible to ensure a quick restoration of bulk power supply through the affected transformer,” TCN said.
The transmission company said further updates would be provided as restoration efforts progress.
