The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has declared a Force Majeure Event on the 330kV Kainji–Birnin Kebbi Transmission Line following the collapse of a transmission tower caused by heavy winds and rainstorms.
The company said the transmission line tripped at 10:44 p.m. on Monday, September 7, 2026. A trial reclosure attempted at 11:07 p.m. was unsuccessful, as the line tripped again.
According to TCN, linesmen from its Birnin Kebbi Sub-Region subsequently commenced a fault-finding patrol along the transmission corridor and discovered on Tuesday, September 8, that Tower T367 had collapsed.
Preliminary findings by the company attributed the incident to heavy winds and rainstorms experienced in the area.
The collapse has affected the transmission of bulk electricity through the 330kV Kainji–Birnin Kebbi transmission corridor.
TCN consequently declared Force Majeure on the affected 330kV Kainji–Birnin Kebbi Transmission Line, identified as 2KNJ–BRK1, citing the natural disaster responsible for the damage.
The transmission company said it had commenced arrangements to mobilise the personnel, equipment and other resources required to the affected location for the rehabilitation of the collapsed tower and restoration of the line.
It, however, disclosed that electricity transmission to Sokoto had been successfully maintained through an alternative transmission route.
According to TCN, the Talata Mafara–Sokoto corridor is currently receiving supply through an alternative path from the Kaduna-Mando axis via the 132kV Zaria–Funtua–Gusau transmission line.
TCN regretted the inconvenience the incident may cause electricity consumers and other stakeholders, assuring that it was making every effort to restore normal bulk power transmission service within the shortest possible time.
