TCN Declares Force Majeure as Windstorm Collapses Three Towers on Birnin Kebbi–Niamey Line

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has declared Force Majeure on the 132kV Birnin Kebbi–Niamey transmission line following the collapse of three transmission towers in Kebbi State.

The affected towers T109, T110 and T111 collapsed at Chibike village after heavy rainfall and a windstorm hit the area.

According to TCN, the transmission line tripped at about 5:38pm on August 26, 2026. A trial reclosure conducted at 6:03pm was unsuccessful as the line tripped instantly again.

Following the incident, TCN linesmen embarked on a fault-finding patrol, during which they discovered the collapsed towers.

The development has disrupted bulk power transmission to Niamey, Niger Republic, through the affected line.

TCN said it has mobilised personnel and resources to the affected location and commenced efforts to rehabilitate the collapsed towers.

The company assured customers in Niamey that it was deploying all necessary resources to restore the transmission line and normal power supply in the shortest possible time.

“Every effort is being made to restore normal supply promptly,” TCN said, while expressing regret over the inconvenience caused by the incident.
