The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has foiled an attempted vandalism at its 330/132kV transmission substation in Bauchi, recovering critical transmission tower components and a vehicle believed to have been used by the suspects.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by the General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, the incident occurred at about 9:34 p.m. on Friday, July 24, 2026, when security personnel on duty intercepted suspected vandals attempting to remove essential tower members from the facility.
The statement said the suspects fled the scene upon sighting the security guards, abandoning the operation.
A subsequent inspection of the area led to the recovery of 12 transmission tower angle irons, a heavy-duty metal measuring scale, and a white pickup truck suspected to have been used in the attempted theft.
TCN disclosed that the recovered items and the vehicle have been handed over to the Railway Division Police Station in Bauchi for further investigation.
The company confirmed that no equipment was successfully stolen and no injuries were recorded during the incident.
Commending the swift action of its security personnel, TCN said their vigilance prevented what could have resulted in the theft of or damage to critical electricity transmission infrastructure.
The company also appealed to residents of host communities to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities around power installations to security agencies or the nearest TCN office to help safeguard the nation’s power infrastructure.
