TCN Raises Alarm Over Vandalism, RoW Encroachment in Aba

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Port Harcourt Region, has intensified its campaign against vandalism and encroachment on transmission corridors, urging communities in Aba, Abia State, to protect critical power infrastructure from sabotage.

The awareness campaign, held on August 28, 2026, at Alaoji in Ugwunagbo Local Government Area of the state, brought together traditional rulers, youths and other community stakeholders to address the persistent threats to TCN installations.

Speaking during the engagement, the Assistant General Manager, Aba Sub-Region, Engr. Juliet Ndi Ukomadu, raised concerns over the repeated vandalism of TCN earthing wires, cables and tower members by youths, warning that such acts could trigger cascading tower collapses.

According to her, the removal or destruction of critical components of transmission towers can compromise their structural integrity, potentially resulting in the collapse of multiple towers and prolonged disruption of electricity supply.

Ukomadu urged community leaders and residents to break their silence on infrastructure sabotage by promptly reporting suspicious activities around TCN installations.

She also educated participants on the dangers associated with vandalising power infrastructure and constructing buildings within transmission Right of Way (RoW), stressing the need for residents to desist from activities capable of endangering lives and disrupting electricity transmission.

Also speaking, the Head of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Etang Edike, warned that anyone caught vandalising critical power infrastructure would face the full weight of the law.

Edike disclosed that the NSCDC had stationed a dedicated patrol vehicle and six armed personnel to respond to reports of vandalism and apprehend suspects.

“The Civil Defence has stationed a dedicated patrol vehicle and six armed personnel ready to be deployed to any location upon call to apprehend vandals,” he said.

He called on residents to remain vigilant and immediately report suspicious movements or activities around transmission installations to security agencies.

The traditional ruler of Ekiti Akoma Ngwa Autonomous Community, HRH Eze Elder Promise Oguibe, assured TCN of the community’s commitment to protecting the transmission infrastructure traversing the area.

Participants from various communities also pledged their cooperation with TCN and security agencies to safeguard transmission facilities and prevent vandalism and encroachment within their localities.
