Tinubu’s Infrastructure, Education Investments Will Drive Nigeria to $1tn Economy – APC Chairman Yilwatda

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, has said the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is making deliberate investments in infrastructure and human capital development to position Nigeria as a one-trillion-dollar economy.

Yilwatda stated this while receiving the Governing Council of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, led by its Pro-Chancellor, Muhammad Audu, at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Information Strategy, Abimbola Tooki, the APC chairman said the Federal Government’s investments in roads, bridges, railways, deep seaports, education and other critical infrastructure are aimed at boosting productivity, attracting investments, creating jobs and driving sustainable economic growth.

According to him, the Tinubu administration recognises that efficient transport networks and modern infrastructure are essential to achieving long-term economic expansion.

Yilwatda said the government is working towards establishing five major deep seaports across the country, including the Badagry, Olokola, Ibom, Bakassi and Bonny Deep Sea Ports, alongside seven coastal highways that will link the ports and enhance the movement of goods and services nationwide.

“These are not isolated infrastructure projects. They are part of a larger economic strategy. We are building the infrastructure that will support the one-trillion-dollar economy that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has set as a target for Nigeria,” he said.

The APC chairman also highlighted the strategic railway project connecting Nigeria to Maradi in Niger Republic, saying it would strengthen regional trade, improve logistics and increase cargo traffic through Nigerian seaports by providing the landlocked country with easier access to maritime facilities.

He disclosed that 81 federal road projects are ongoing in the North-Central zone, while over 260 road and bridge projects are currently being executed across the six geopolitical zones. He added that 27 major road projects worth about ₦3.9 trillion have also been approved across 15 states.

On economic reforms, Yilwatda said the administration’s tax reforms are designed to ensure greater fairness by reducing the burden on low-income earners while ensuring higher-income groups contribute proportionately more.

He also praised the government’s foreign exchange reforms, saying they had improved market stability and reduced distortions associated with the parallel market.

The APC chairman noted that Nigeria’s economic outlook is improving, citing a GDP growth rate of about four per cent and growing investor confidence. He referenced a reported $20 billion investment commitment by Shell, which he said would create jobs and stimulate economic activities across key sectors.

Yilwatda stressed that the administration’s reforms extend beyond infrastructure to human capital development, particularly in education and healthcare. He commended the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, for producing skilled health professionals and described the institution as a strategic investment in Nigeria’s future.

He also welcomed the Federal Government’s efforts to improve the welfare of university lecturers, expressing confidence that better remuneration and improved working conditions would strengthen the education sector and reduce industrial disputes.

Earlier, Professor Muhammad Audu appealed to the APC chairman to facilitate access for the university’s governing council to President Tinubu and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to seek support for critical infrastructure projects needed for the institution’s continued growth.

Yilwatda assured the delegation that the request would receive the necessary attention, reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to investing in institutions that strengthen Nigeria’s human capital and national development.
