The Nigeria Police Force, Zone 7 Headquarters, Abuja, has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting charity, community engagement and stronger police-community relations as part of efforts to build safer and more inclusive communities.
The Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 7, AIG Victor Olaiya, made the commitment in a statement marking World Charity Day, stressing the importance of empathy, partnership and service in effective community policing.
According to him, community policing goes beyond crime prevention and law enforcement, as it also entails building trust, strengthening relationships with residents and supporting vulnerable members of society.
Olaiya said Zone 7 had continued to promote charitable gestures, community and school outreach programmes, as well as other support initiatives aimed at bringing the police closer to the people and fostering stronger bonds with the communities they serve.
He encouraged individuals, organisations and communities to embrace the spirit of giving by extending support to people in need, while maintaining security consciousness and vigilance.
The AIG also urged members of the public to promptly report suspicious activities or persons to the nearest police station across the Federal Capital Territory and Niger State.
The Zone 7 Police Command said sustained cooperation between the police and members of the public remains essential to maintaining peace, security and public safety within the two jurisdictions.
