The Nigeria Police Force, Zone 7 Headquarters, Abuja, is set to host a two-day media conference aimed at strengthening police-media relations and promoting responsible security communication.
The conference, scheduled for September 15 and 16, 2026, at Barcelona Hotel, Wuse 2, Abuja, will have the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, as Chief Host, while the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 7, AIG Victor Olaiya, will serve as Host.
ASP Halima Mohammed, Police Public Relations Officer, Zone 7 Headquarters, disclosed this in a statement issued on behalf of the Assistant Inspector-General of Police on Monday, September 7, 2026.
Organised by the Nigeria Police Force, Zone 7 Headquarters, in collaboration with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and the International Institute of Journalism (IIJ), the conference will commence at 9:00 a.m. daily.
According to the Police, the engagement is designed to bring together journalists, content creators, digital media professionals and other media practitioners for learning, dialogue, networking and professional exchange on the changing dynamics of security communication.
The conference will focus on key issues including fact-based journalism, responsible security reportage, misinformation management, crisis communication, digital media practices and public safety.
The Police said participation would be limited to 30 media professionals to ensure an interactive platform where participants can engage directly with resource persons, exchange ideas, build stronger professional networks and foster collaboration between the Police and the media.
The Zone said the initiative would also reinforce the shared responsibility of the Police and the media to ensure that security information is communicated accurately and responsibly.
At a time when information can shape public perception within minutes, Zone 7 stressed the need for a media community capable of informing the public without inflaming tensions or spreading misleading information.
The Police Public Relations Office therefore invited interested media professionals passionate about responsible journalism and the role of information in public safety to participate in the conference.
The organisers described the event with the theme: “Two Days. Thirty Voices. One Conversation That Matters.”
