The immediate past National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi has indicated his intention to vie for Kwara State Governorship seat in the 2019 general elections.
He gave the indication on Thursday evening while addressing some family members, friends, colleagues and well-wishers who attended his annual Eid-el-kabir get-together at his Ilorin residence.
Abdullahi who recently defected from the APC to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), expressed confidence that he would clinch the party’s gubernatorial ticket for the 2019 elections, and called on all Kwarans to support his bid.
Omoluabi as he is fondly called said that if elected as governor, he would serve the people of Kwara State and also take responsibility for whatever happens under his administration.
He gave assurance that education and youth development would be a major priority of his administration, adding that his government would be committed to the sustainable development of the State.
Speaking further, Abdullahi stressed that youth development remains non-negotiable and that he would ensure young people were meaningfully engaged and empowered.
Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi attended the University of Lagos where he bagged a Second Class Upper Bachelors degree in Mass Communication. In 2001, he won the British Council Chevening scholarship to study to undergo Masters Degree programme in Governance and Development at the Institute of Development, University of Sussex, UK and graduated with a distinction.
He joined the services of ThisDay newspaper in 1997 and rose to become the Deputy Editor of the Newspaper in 2003. Abdullahi was later in 2003 appointed by the then Kwara State Governor, Dr Bukola Saraki as his Special Assistant, Communication Strategy and subsequently as the Special Adviser on Policy and Strategy in 2005.
From 2007 to 2011, he served as the Kwara State Commissioner of Education, Science and Technology before he went on to serve in the cabinet of the former President Goodluck Jonathan Minister of Youth Development in July 2011 and later as the Minister of Sports.
Abdullahi became the National Publicity Secretary of the APC in December 2016, a position he held till he resigned early this month.
