ISHAQ OLANREWAJU OLOYEDE, QUINTESSENTIAL, STEREOTYPICAL PATRIOT, ICON AND ENIGMA BOWS OUT? By Ishaq Kunle Sanni
Willam Shakespeare the greatest literary legend of all times said on marble in his play ‘The Twelve Night ‘ SOME PEOPLE ARE BORN GREAT, SOME ACHIEVE GREATNESS, WHILE OTHERS HAVE GREATNESS THRUST UPON THEM I am sufficiently close to one of the most incorruptible public servants of our time Professor Oloyede to know that he was not born great. His late father was not a rich man by any yardstick of measurement. He was a pious Imam who enjoyed relative comfort before his death through the instrumentality of having…
Abba Kyari: Who, what shot the Sheriff? By Festus Adedayo
In the Preface to my book entitled Ayinla Omowura: Life and Times of an Apala Legend, (2020) I equated stardom and zenith of social ladder with the purport of a Yoruba wise-saying which says, epo ni mo ru, oniyangi, ma ba t’emi je. This literally translates to mean, anyone who shoulders a heavy gallon of palm oil should avoid the destructive tendency of the stone-laced ground he walks upon. I deployed the above to explain the premature death of Omowura, one of Yoruba’s most evocative traditional African musicians, who…
Saraki, EFCC and the Media By Olawale Olaleye
In one of my posts last week, I addressed the penchant by some media organisations to colour events, stereotype characters and or misrepresent facts, often through their choice of language. The undiscerning could think it’s a function of their limitation in language use. But that’s not always the case. They know exactly what they’re doing in many instances. A relevant and topical example I cited was the report on the downing of a fighter jet by terrorists and practically all known news sources described the criminals as bandits. Bandits downed…

From JAMB to Better: Farewell Anecdotes of the Incorruptible ‘Alfa Isiaka’ By Mansur Ismaila
Prof Is-haq ‘Isiaka’ Oloyede is indeed an enigma, a paradox of personalities. Equally loved, hated and feared by many, he is everything people in his social, academic and religious circle are not. As he bows out today after a vivaciously successful and highly kinetic (first) tenure as Chief Executive and Registrar of JAMB, it is only apt to write this funny tribute about him, from a fresh, different and honestly hilarious perspective. You see, I first met Professor Oloyede and his family when I was approximately 17, having just resumed…
