The Joint committee on Police Affairs have asked the Executive arm of government to allocate more fund to Police Service Commission (PSC) for effective policing in Nigeria.
The Committee Chairman, Amb.Abdulhamid Mallam Madori stated this in his remarks on Monday during the Commission’s 2024 budget presentation at the National Assembly in Abuja.
Madori was of the view that, due to the enormous task before the Commission, the proposed budget of the commission was not in tandem with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda.
He posited that, the National Assembly with Sen. Godswill Akpabio as leader, security has been placed on the front burner and that the Senate as an institution was ready to support the budget of the commission to enable them perform optimally.
Not pleased with the implementation of budgets as previously passed, he singled out poor implementation as one of the major problems of Nigeria but believed that President Bola Tinubu with the support of 10th National Assembly led by Senate president Godswill Akpabio, all Nigeria will benefit from renewed hope by the President.
Alluding to the fact that security of lives and property is of paramount importance, he said that, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led government cannot deliver on its renewed hope agenda without tackling insecurity, and providing infrastructure.
In his response, the Chairman Police Service Commission (PSC) Ex-IGP Solomon Arase told the committee that under his leadership, Nigerians will see a renewed, accountable and professional police if properly funded.
Giving a peek into his noble achievements, he said upon assumption of office,he has introduced some reforms which were geared towards effective and workable policing in Nigeria.
He therefore thanked the committee in their quest to support the commission in making Nigeria a crime free society.
