Media Executives have been tasked to fashion out workable solution for a massive participation in the forthcoming 2023 Population and Housing Census.
Speaking during a one day breakfast meeting for Media Executives in Umuahia, Abia State by the National Population Commission, the NPC Federal Commissioner, Chief Nwanne Johnny Nwabuisi described the media as a very critical factor in any census exercise as their activities among other things, revolves around advocacy and awareness creating.
Nwabuisi therefore tasked the Media Executives to brainstorm and come up with initiatives that will boost the 2023 Population and Housing Census exercise campaign to the nooks and crannies of the Southeast zone.
Lending her voice, the NPC Abia State Director, Lady Juliana Adaku Ezebuiro disclosed that the NPC has a genuine intention to conduct/organize the census, debunking the rumours making the rounds that the exercise was not a reality.
While calling on the Media Executives to work on the people’s perception of the exercise, Ezebuiro noted that the Commission, Federal and State Governments have put in a lot towards the census project.
Meanwhile, in an effort to ensure a successful 2023 Population and Housing Census exercise, Media Executives at the meeting agreed for a comprehensive advocacy campaign to interface with all strata of society including the Church, Town unions and Development Associations, traditional rulers, transport unions, religious organizations, youth and women associations, student bodies and pressure groups.
Reading out the communique of the meeting, the Acting Director General of Broadcasting Corporation of Abia, BCA Comrade Hyacinth Okoli noted the diminishing interest and confidence in the Nigeria project by large segment of the populace as a result of the outcome of the just concluded Presidential election and stressed the need for confidence building by the commission.
