The Chairman/CEO of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has congratulated three Nigerians—Shaboozey (Collins Obinna Chibueze), Tyler, the Creator (Tyler Gregory Okonma), and Cynthia Erivo (Cynthia Chinasaokwu Onyedinmanazu Amarachukwu Owezuke Echimino Erivo) for their historic victories at the 2026 Grammy Awards.
In a statement released by NiDCOM’s Director of Media, Public Relations, and Protocols, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Dabiri-Erewa described their achievements on one of the world’s most prestigious cultural stages as a powerful testament to the creativity, excellence, and global influence of Nigerians and people of Nigerian heritage across the diaspora. She emphasized that these wins are not only personal milestones but also collective moments of pride for Nigeria.
Balogun noted that Dabiri-Erewa also acknowledged the significant contributions of Nigerian-based artistes including Davido, Burna Boy, Ayra Starr, and Wizkid, among others, highlighting the country’s ongoing impact on global music and culture.
“Shaboozey, Tyler Okonma, and Cynthia Erivo through their names, family histories, and ancestral roots remain unmistakably Nigerian,” Dabiri-Erewa said. “Through their artistry, they continue to showcase Nigeria’s rich cultural influence worldwide.”
She urged media houses, cultural institutions, and Nigerians both at home and abroad to embrace a more inclusive understanding of national pride, celebrating excellence wherever it originated. According to Dabiri-Erewa, recognizing Nigerians in the diaspora strengthens national unity, enhanced global respect for Nigeria, and inspired future generations.
