The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) on Tuesday marked its 35th anniversary with an Anti-Corruption Day, as the Registrar-General/CEO, Hussaini Ishaq Magaji, called on anti-corruption agencies and key stakeholders to deepen collaboration with the Commission in the national fight against corruption.
Magaji made the appeal while declaring open the Anti-Corruption Day event organised as part of activities to commemorate CAC@35. He said stronger inter-agency partnerships were critical to improving transparency, accountability and overall governance in Nigeria.
The CAC boss noted that in 2025, the Commission moved beyond advocacy to take concrete actions aimed at sanitising its internal processes, stressed that CAC had demonstrated zero tolerance for corruption through deliberate reforms and strengthened internal controls.
He also reiterated the need for a single, central Beneficial Ownership register, warning that the current fragmented arrangement where different sectors maintain separate registers created duplication, inconsistencies and regulatory loopholes that could be exploited for illicit activities.
According to him, a unified Beneficial Ownership framework would enhance transparency, improve regulatory oversight and support Nigeria’s commitments to global anti-corruption standards.
The event featured a panel discussion session and a paper presentation titled “Transparency for Development: The Nigeria Experience”, delivered by Demola Bakare, Director of Public Education at the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
Participants at the event included representatives of anti-corruption agencies, public institutions and other stakeholders, who discussed practical strategies for strengthening transparency and accountability in both the public and private sectors as CAC continue its reform drive at 35.
