The Nigerian Navy has recorded significant successes in its ongoing fight against crude oil theft under Operation Delta Sanity II, seized over 100,000 litres of stolen crude oil, dismantled more than 30 illegal refinery sites, and arrested several suspects across the Niger Delta in January 2025.
According to a statement signed by the Director of Information, Commodore A. Adams-Aliu, these operations led to major disruptions in illegal oil activities in Rivers, Bayelsa, Ondo, Delta, and Akwa Ibom States.
Some of the key achievements included the seizure of a 30-meter wooden boat carrying 40,000 litres of stolen crude oil on January 19 in Ondo State and the dismantling of multiple refinery sites with over 31,000 litres of siphoned crude oil on January 27 in Rivers State.
Additionally, the Navy raided a militant camp in Opu-Okumbiri, Bayelsa State, on January 11, leading to the arrest of two suspected kidnappers and the recovery of weapons, including an AK-56 rifle and five pump-action guns.
The Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, reaffirmed the Navy’s commitment to eradicating maritime crimes, emphasizing that Operation Delta Sanity II will continue its aggressive efforts to safeguard Nigeria’s maritime domain.
These achievements mark a significant milestone in the fight against crude oil theft, reinforcing the Navy’s determination to protect national resources and curb illicit activities in the region.
