The Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has congratulated 22-year-old Zuriel Oduwole on her nomination for the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize by three distinguished institutions.
In a statement issued by NIDCOM’s Director of Media, Public Relations, and Protocols, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Dabiri-Erewa described the nomination as well-deserved, citing Oduwole’s relentless advocacy for girls’ education across Africa and the Caribbean, as well as her peace mediation efforts in South America and the Middle East.
The NIDCOM boss expressed confidence that Oduwole stand a strong chance of winning the prestigious award, given her passion, determination, and commitment to global change. She also urged Nigerian youths to emulate Oduwole’s positive impact rather than engage in activities that could tarnish the country’s image.
According to the statement, Oduwole’s nomination was put forward by a Professor of Clinical Education Engineering at the University of Southern California (USC), an Emeritus Professor of Social Science at the University of Missouri, and a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Oduwole, who has received several global recognitions, including the Forbes Leadership Award, the CARE Global Impact Award, and the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon Award, has met with 36 Presidents and Prime Ministers worldwide to discuss solutions to socio-economic challenges.
Her nomination further highlighted the resilience and excellence of Nigerians on the global stage.
Born in Los Angeles, California, in 2002, Oduwole comes from a lineage of accomplished Nigerians. Her grandfather, Dr. Michael Oduwole, left Nigeria for Scotland in 1954 to pursue a medical career, while her father, Ademola Oduwole, later moved to the United States in 1991.
With her nomination for one of the world’s most prestigious awards, Oduwole continues to be a symbol of the potential and excellence embedded in Nigerians worldwide.
