The Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, has called on residents to embrace peace and tolerance ahead of the 2026 Area Council elections, stressing that elections should not be treated as a do-or-die affair.
CP Dantawaye made the call on Monday, January 27, 2026, during courtesy visits to the traditional head (Sa’peyi) of Garki District, HRH Alhaji Dr. Usman Nga Kupi, and the traditional head (Gomo) of Kuje, HRH Alhaji Dr. Haruna Tanko Jibrin.
During the visits, the police chief held extensive engagements with community leaders, including 36 village heads in Garki District and 124 village heads in Kuje Area Council. He emphasized the need for peaceful coexistence, tolerance, and collective responsibility as preparations intensify for the forthcoming elections.
CP Dantawaye noted that democratic processes provided continuous opportunities for participation and leadership, adding that no election outcome should result in violence or a breakdown of law and order. According to him, the ultimate objective of the police and other stakeholders is to ensure peaceful, credible, and violence-free polls across the FCT.
He also urged traditional institutions to use their influence to sensitize residents on the dangers of electoral violence, misinformation, and hate speech, while encouraging cooperation with security agencies before, during, and after the elections.
The Commissioner explained that the visits were part of the Command’s community-oriented policing and stakeholder engagement strategy, aimed at strengthening collaboration between the police and local communities to promote peace, security, and public trust in the FCT.
