The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriation, Senator Bara’u Jibrin (Kano North APC) has assured Nigerians that the delay by sub committee for the presentation of 2023 budget reports to the appropriation Committee will not affect the passage of Budget by December,2022.
Sen.Bara’u gave this assurance Friday while speaking to Journalists on Friday at the National Assembly on the journey so far of the 2023 budget.
Bara’u accordingly urged Chairmen of the sub committees to commence the presentation of reports of the various ministries, MDA and agencies under their Committees to the main appropriation committee to enable the passage of the budget by December as the tradition of Ninth Assembly he said.
“We really want to achieve that time line of December in passing the budget, so that is our commitment and we must do that”.Bara’u stated.
It would be recalled that the committee on appropriation sat on Friday to receive the 2023 budget reports from the sub committees, however no committee chairman was present at the session.
According to him, “We are not happy that the sub-committees scheduled to appear before my committee today but failed to do so, but be it as it’s may, we are giving them second chance to come on Monday.”Failure to appear, we will sit and take charge of whatever they were suppose to do.
“We must adhere strictly to timetable, we will not afford to change what we have been doing in the last three years, Nigerian are waiting we are optimistic that they did not because of hiccups or the other”.
He maintained that if they did not appear, the appropriation committee will take charge of what they are supposed to do.
“If they did not appear, the appropriation committee will take charge of what they are supposed to do. But am sure they will do it, they are responsible people” Bara’u added.
