The Association of Corporate Online Editors (ACOE) has reached a major milestone with the adoption of its constitution during a special Congress session held on January 23, 2025. The move is expected to bolster the governance structure of the association and foster unity among its members.
The newly adopted constitution, an 18-page document containing 34 articles, was crafted by a Constitution Drafting Committee inaugurated on June 13, 2024. The committee was led by Nnamdi Okosieme as Chairman, with Chidi Ugwu, Queen Kunde, Chux Ukwuatu, and Osby Isibor as members.
The preamble of the document reflected the association’s mission and commitment:
“We, the members of ASSOCIATION OF CORPORATE ONLINE EDITORS (ACOE), a non-political organisation, do firmly and solemnly resolve to provide for ourselves a constitution and to be governed by the provisions therein contained.”
After an extensive review, the motion for the adoption of the constitution was moved by Frederick Idehai and seconded by Emmanuel Onuh.
Speaking at the event, ACOE Chairman, Mr. Martins Odiete, praised the committee for their meticulous effort in producing an inclusive and comprehensive document. He assured members that copies of the constitution would be distributed, emphasized its role as a guiding framework for the association’s activities.
“This document reflects our shared values, goals, and aspirations as an association. It will serve as a solid foundation for our governance and future growth,” Odiete said.
Members present expressed excitement, described the development as historic and a step forward in enhancing transparency, accountability, and cohesion within the association.
The adoption of the constitution reinforced ACOE’s position as a leading body of online editors in Nigeria and is expected to enhance its impact on the nation’s media landscape.
