The Democratic Front (TDF) has criticised the National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Bolaji Abdullahi, over his comments on the recent increase in fuel prices, describing his position as “thoughtless” and politically motivated.
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Mallam Danjuma Muhammad, and Secretary, Chief Wale Adedayo, the group argued that it was unfair to blame the Bola Tinubu administration for developments influenced by global events, particularly the ongoing Middle East conflict.
According to TDF, the ADC’s criticism reflects what it described as a “desperate” bid for political relevance, adding that the party has shown a lack of empathy toward the economic challenges facing Nigerians.
The group further faulted Abdullahi’s claim that Nigerians are yet to feel the impact of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, insisting that the administration is already recording visible progress across key sectors.
TDF cited initiatives such as the National Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), which it said is supporting students in tertiary institutions, as well as increased revenue allocation to the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC), enabling state and local governments to execute development projects.
The group also pointed to agricultural investments, which it said are strengthening food security and contributing to a reduction in headline inflation from about 35 percent to 15 percent.
Recalling Abdullahi’s time as a minister under the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan, the group alleged that the period was marked by economic mismanagement and lack of impactful policies, in contrast to the current administration.
TDF further highlighted achievements under the Renewed Hope Agenda, including the construction of over 15,000 housing units for low and middle-income earners, expanded healthcare interventions, training of over 60,000 frontline health workers, and enrollment of over 20 million Nigerians in the national health insurance scheme.
The group urged Abdullahi to refrain from what it described as “mudslinging” against the Tinubu administration, arguing that such criticisms would not enhance the credibility of the ADC, which it claimed is already burdened by a poor record of leadership.
The statement concluded that the Renewed Hope Agenda is “crystallising into tangible development,” and called on opposition figures to adopt more constructive engagement in national discourse.
