Former Sports Editor and administrator, Arabinrin Aderonke, has commended the Super Eagles of Nigeria for their impressive victory over Tunisia at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), describing the result as a clear statement of intent by the team.
The win secured Nigeria’s qualification to the Round of 16 with a game to spare, a development Aderonke said reflects the team’s resilience, discipline and ambition at the continental tournament.
Speaking on the encounter, she praised the Super Eagles’ attacking mentality and composure against a confident Tunisian side that had come into the match on the back of an opening win.
“I would like to extend my warmest felicitations to the Super Eagles for their well-deserved and courageous victory over a highly competitive Tunisian team. Qualification with a game to spare says a lot about the character and strength of this team,” she said.
Aderonke, who recently won the Role Model of the Year award at the International Sport and Culture Association (ISCA) in Copenhagen, Denmark, also lauded the goals scored by Victor Osimhen, Wilfred Ndidi and Ademola Lookman, noting that the performance was a product of teamwork rather than individual brilliance.
She described Nigeria’s haul of six points from two group matches as a “very strong statement of intent,” adding that it underlines the Super Eagles’ status as genuine title contenders at AFCON 2025.
The Super Eagles are currently top of Group C and could face the runner-up of Group D featuring Senegal, Benin, Congo and Botswana if they maintain their position.
Aderonke urged the team to remain focused as the competition progresses and called on Nigerians at home and abroad to continue supporting the side.
She further reaffirmed her commitment to sports development, gender equality and youth empowerment, areas in which she has remained a prominent advocate across Africa.
