The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, on Sunday joined the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General OO Oluyede, other Service Chiefs and well-meaning Nigerians at an Interdenominational Church Service held in Abuja as part of activities marking the Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day (AFCRD) 2026.
The solemn service, which focused on thanksgiving, prayers and reflection, was organised in honour of fallen Nigerian military personnel who paid the supreme sacrifice in defence of the nation’s sovereignty and unity, while also seeking divine guidance and protection for serving officers and men of the Armed Forces.
Lieutenant General Shaibu was represented at the event by the Chief of Transformation and Innovation (Army), Major General OS Abai.
Also in attendance were Principal Staff Officers from Defence and Service Headquarters, senior military officers both serving and retired as well as members of the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA), the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA), and other affiliated bodies from the sister services.
The Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day activities will climax on January 15, 2026, with the main ceremony scheduled to hold at the Eagle Square, Abuja, alongside simultaneous commemorations across the 36 states of the federation.
