The Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation has announced the opening of applications for the sixth cohort of its flagship AIG Public Leaders Programme (AIG PLP), a transformative executive education initiative aimed at strengthening public sector leadership across Africa.
The six-month programme, delivered in partnership with the Blavatnik School of Government at the University of Oxford, is designed to equip high-potential public servants with the tools, networks, and strategic insight required to drive meaningful reforms within African public institutions.
Applications are open to qualified public servants from all English-speaking African countries and will close on Sunday, April 12, 2026. The programme is scheduled to commence in October 2026.
Since its launch in 2021, the AIG Public Leaders Programme has established a strong track record of impact across the continent. Alumni have collectively designed and implemented more than 230 reform projects within ministries, departments, and agencies, addressing challenges across sectors including healthcare, finance, agriculture, and education.
According to an impact survey conducted by the Foundation, 62 percent of programme alumni have received promotions or taken on expanded leadership responsibilities following their participation, underscoring the initiative’s influence on career growth and institutional effectiveness.
Speaking on the programme’s objectives, Executive Vice-Chair of the Foundation, Ofovwe Aig-Imoukhuede, noted that Africa’s public sector challenges require leaders capable of navigating complex systems and implementing sustainable reforms.
She said the AIG PLP was specifically designed to develop reform-minded leaders who possess both practical skills and strategic understanding needed to deliver lasting change.
One example of the programme’s impact is the work of alumna Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, who developed a secure self-reporting tool that enables survivors of domestic and sexual abuse to safely document incidents and preserve evidence while accessing support services.
The AIG Public Leaders Programme adopts a blended learning model that combines virtual sessions with an intensive residential module. Participation is fully funded, with the Foundation covering programme costs, including accommodation and feeding during residential sessions.
Participants also benefit from direct engagement with world-class faculty and training focused on key governance challenges such as negotiating in the public interest, leveraging digital technology for governance, strengthening public institutions, and promoting integrity in public life.
The programme concludes with a capstone reform project, enabling participants to apply newly acquired skills to real-world institutional challenges and translate learning into practical outcomes.
