The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 7 Headquarters, Abuja, AIG Victor Olaiya, has decorated seventy-four Inspectors of Police elevated to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP II), charged them to uphold professionalism and ethical conduct in the discharge of their duties.
The decoration ceremony, held at the Zone 7 Headquarters in Abuja, attracted senior police officers, families of the promotees and other distinguished guests. The event was part of efforts by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to recognise excellence, dedication and meritorious service within its ranks.
The promotion of the officers followed the recommendation of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, and the subsequent approval of the Police Service Commission, in line with ongoing reforms aimed at rewarding hard work and strengthening professionalism in the Force.
As part of the programme, a general lecture session was organised, during which selected personnel delivered presentations on key professional issues including effective communication, social media policy, public relations, extortion, assault and unlawful detention. The session focused on reinforcing ethical standards, accountability and respect for citizens’ rights.
In his address, AIG Olaiya congratulated the newly promoted officers and described their elevation as a call to greater responsibility and discipline. He stressed that promotion goes beyond a change in title, noting that it comes with increased obligations to uphold integrity, accountability and respect for human rights.
The AIG also issued a firm warned against misconduct, stating that acts such as extortion, assault and unlawful detention would not be tolerated under any circumstance. He emphasised that any officer found culpable would face strict disciplinary measures in line with the laws and regulations guiding the Nigeria Police Force.
Speaking on behalf of the promotees, ASP Mordy Kennedy expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police, the Police Service Commission and the AIG for the recognition. He assured that the newly promoted officers would remain committed to the ethics and standards of the Force.
The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to building a more effective, people-oriented and service-driven institution.
