President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has congratulated Nigeria’s senior women’s football team, the Super Falcons, on clinching a record-extending 10th Women Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title after a dramatic 3-2 comeback win against host nation Morocco on Saturday night.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Hon Eseme Eyiboh, Senator Akpabio lauded the Falcons for their resilience, unity, and unyielding determination to bring glory to the country.
“Your thrilling comeback against Morocco is reminiscent of the Saudi ’88 Daman Miracle and the Dream Team’s triumph at the Atlanta ’96 Olympics. This victory will forever be etched in the annals of African football history,” Akpabio said.
He noted that the victory rekindled national pride and demonstrated the hallmark spirit of Nigerian athletes. “Your dedication, skill, and perseverance have paid off, bringing glory to Nigeria and inspiring a nation.”
The Senate President assured that the National Assembly will continue to promote sports development through enabling laws and proper funding.
“I rejoice with our President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and indeed all Nigerians on this noble achievement. Congratulations Super Falcons! Congratulations Nigeria!” he added.
