The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, on Tuesday led a delegation of Senators to the home of the late Senator Okechukwu Ezea in Abuja to pay their condolences following his passing on November 18, 2025.
Tuesday’s plenary was earlier adjourned to enable Senators to personally visit the family of the Enugu North lawmaker, who served in the 10th Senate until his death.
Addressing the family, Akpabio expressed the Senate’s shared grief and solidarity, describing the loss as sudden and deeply felt.
“It is never easy to lose a colleague with whom you have shared daily interactions for over two years, only to have him vanish so suddenly,” Akpabio said.
“We have gathered in our numbers to commiserate with your family and to let you know that you are not alone in mourning your late husband, father, brother, and uncle. In the time we worked with him, he was a man of peace, who treated his colleagues with dignity and respect. His passing came as a shock, as there was never any sign of ill health while he served in the Senate.”
Responding, Jideofor Ezea, son of the late Senator, expressed gratitude to the Senate President and the delegation, saying the visit and the words of encouragement had brought comfort to the family during their time of mourning.
The condolence visit highlighted the Senate’s commitment to supporting the families of its members in moments of loss and to honouring the service of its distinguished lawmakers.
