President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of former Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Ibrahim Tanko, describing him as a distinguished jurist whose legacy will endure in Nigeria’s judicial system.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by his Special Assistant on Media, Jackson Udom, Akpabio said the late Chief Justice devoted his life to the promotion of justice, the rule of law and the strengthening of the nation’s judiciary, both locally and internationally.
According to the Senate President, the passing of Justice Tanko is a great loss to the country, noting that his contributions to the development and independence of the judiciary will be remembered for generations.
“I received with sadness and great shock the news of the passing of our former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Ibrahim Tanko. His immense contributions to the development of our nation’s judiciary will never be forgotten,” Akpabio said, praying for the peaceful repose of his soul.
Akpabio also extended condolences to the family of the deceased, the Nigerian Judiciary and the Federal Government, assuring them of the support and sympathy of the leadership of the 10th Senate.
He prayed that God grant the bereaved family and all those affected the strength to bear the loss, while urging Nigerians to uphold the values of integrity and justice which the late jurist exemplified during his lifetime.
