A prominent Akwa Ibom elder and former lawmaker, Chief Nse Ntuen, has dismissed recent allegations against the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, described them as malicious, baseless, and inconsistent with both fact and character.
Chief Ntuen, who has known Akpabio for over five decades, issued a detailed statement in Uyo where he condemned the claims made by Mrs. Patience Ibanga Akpabio the Senate President’s sister-in-law labelling them as products of “personal bitterness and deliberate mischief.”
Ntuen, a former Chairman of Essien Udim Local Government Area and current Honorary Adviser to the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, said the accusations were “without foundation in fact or common sense,” stressed that they were designed to malign the Senate President’s reputation and create unnecessary tension within the Akwa Ibom community.
“We must not allow a culture of reckless falsehood to replace dialogue and truth. These claims are not only offensive but represent a conscious attempt to erode the dignity of honest leadership and sow discord among a people united by shared respect and history,” Ntuen stated.
The elder statesman aligned himself with the position of the Greater Akpabio Family, which had earlier issued a statement reaffirming confidence in the Senate President and dismissed the allegations as false. According to Ntuen, the family’s resolution “has settled the matter conclusively and should be respected as such.”
He further commended Senator Akpabio’s composure and restraint in the face of public provocation, describing his silence as “a mark of strength and political maturity.”
“Leadership is not theatre; it is service. Senator Akpabio’s calmness and tireless work at the helm of the 10th Senate have continued to yield tangible results for Nigeria. His focus on legislative efficiency and national unity is the surest response to malice,” Ntuen added.
The former ALGON Chairman urged politicians and citizens alike to uphold decorum and truth in public discourse, warning that the spread of unfounded allegations weakens democracy and undermines the nation’s moral fabric.
“Nigeria needs builders, not destroyers; thinkers, not rumour peddlers. Senator Akpabio has chosen to be a builder and history will vindicate that choice,” he said.
Chief Ntuen reaffirmed his loyalty to Governor Umo Eno’s peace-driven administration and his continued support for Senator Akpabio, whom he described as “a son of Akwa Ibom who continue to represent the state with distinction at the national level.”
“We stand with our leader, our brother, and our pride. Those who trade in falsehood will learn that truth is patient but enduring. Our collective focus must remain on the task of nation-building,” he concluded.
