The Nigeria Police Force Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command has dismissed reports of an alleged bandit threat against Kungaboku Community, describing a letter circulating in the area as the handiwork of mischief makers attempting to create panic among residents.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer of the FCT Command, Josephine Adeh, said the Command became aware of publications by Vanguard Newspaper and Daily Trust on March 15 and 16, 2026, claiming that suspected bandits had sent a letter through a student of a private school in Kungaboku Community threatening to attack the village and neighbouring Paze Community.
According to the police spokesperson, the threat was reportedly linked to the neutralisation of a bandit commander during a recent security operation conducted by the FCT Police Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit in collaboration with troops of the 7 Guards Battalion (Guards Brigade).
However, Adeh said investigations by the Command revealed that the letter did not originated from bandits but from individuals seeking to spread fear and panic within the community.
“The Command wishes to inform the general public that the said letter originated from mischief makers seeking to spread fear and panic within the community for their mischievous purposes,” she stated.
The police urged residents of Kungaboku and neighbouring communities to disregard the letter and remain calm, while continuing to maintain vigilance and security awareness.
Adeh also disclosed that security personnel have been deployed in and around the affected communities to prevent any possible attack and reassure residents of their safety.
She reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the Federal Capital Territory and urged members of the public to promptly report suspicious persons or activities through the police emergency lines.
