Along Transport Seeks Investment to Expand Affordable Commuter Services

Along Transport, an Abuja-based cab company, has unveiled a modern public transportation app designed to offer safe and budget-friendly commuting services across Nigeria. The app, currently in trial phases in Abuja, Rivers, and Bayelsa states, aims to transform the nation’s transportation landscape.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, the Managing Director and Co-founder of Along Transport, Endurance Timothy Omonibo (MNIPR, MNICM), emphasized the company’s commitment to providing secure, affordable, and convenient rides for both passengers and drivers, particularly for low-income individuals facing economic challenges.

Co-founded in 2023 by Omonibo and Dolapo Obatoyinbo, Along Transport officially launched in September 2024, drawing inspiration from the popular urban term “Along,” commonly used by commuters. The company’s app, the Along App, is designed to enhance transportation services through identity verification, affordability, and multiple ride options.

Riders and drivers must register using their National Identification Number (NIN) or Bank Verification Number (BVN) to prevent crimes such as kidnapping and theft. The company collaborates with a trusted identity verification provider and is accredited by the Nigerian Data Protection Commission (NDPC). The app features two modes: Along (Transit), offering shared rides with fixed stops in Economy and Business categories, and Drop (Trip), a private, point-to-point ride option.

The SOS button allows users to alert emergency contacts or authorities like the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Nigeria Police in case of emergencies. Payments can be made via cash, wallet, or card, with a 10% commission deducted from drivers for cash-based rides.

Since its beta rollout, Along Transport has recorded 4,500 active riders, 375 drivers, and 305 completed rides. However, Omonibo acknowledged the company’s need for substantial investment to scale operations, improve technology infrastructure, expand its fleet, and penetrate new markets.

“We are investor-ready and poised to redefine affordable and safer transportation across Nigeria and Africa,” Omonibo stated.
