AMAC Chairman-Elect Maikalangu donates Borehole to NUJ FCT, pledges stronger Media Partnership

The Chairman-Elect of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Hon. Christopher Maikalangu, has donated a borehole to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, reaffirmed his commitment to grassroots development and collaboration with the media.

The donation was announced on Thursday when the NUJ FCT Council leadership paid the chairman-elect a congratulatory courtesy visit following his victory in last Saturday’s municipal elections. The NUJ delegation was led by the Council’s Vice Chairman, Yahaya Ndambabo, who represented the Chairman, Comrade Grace Ike.

Speaking during the visit, Ndambabo expressed appreciation for the warm reception and described the borehole donation as a clear demonstration of Maikalangu’s dedication to community development and constructive engagement with the media.

He congratulated the chairman-elect on what he described as a landslide victory, noting that the outcome reflected the confidence residents of AMAC have in his leadership.

Ndambabo also highlighted infrastructural projects executed during Maikalangu’s first term, particularly in Sabon Lugbe and other communities, while reaffirming the NUJ FCT Council’s role in providing election coverage and monitoring activities across AMAC and the five other area councils in the Federal Capital Territory.

“This well-deserved victory reflects your people-oriented leadership, now further demonstrated by this generous donation to the NUJ FCT Council,” he said, urging the chairman-elect to consolidate on his achievements in his second term.

In his response, Maikalangu thanked the NUJ FCT Council for the visit and its consistent media support, attributing his re-election to sustained grassroots engagement, infrastructure development, and empowerment initiatives.

“Politics is local; it is about the people at the grassroots, not just the city centres,” he said, adding that projects executed during his first term helped build renewed public trust.

He also commended the unity within the All Progressives Congress (APC), noting that strong grassroots mobilization contributed significantly to the high voter turnout recorded during the elections.

Maikalangu stated that the borehole donation underscored his administration’s commitment to collaborative development and continued engagement with critical stakeholders, including the media.
