The Annang Women Advocacy Network International (AWANI) has issued a stern warning to Mrs. Patience Ibanga Akpabio, threatened to ostracize her over what they described as a “campaign of calumny” against her brother-in-law, Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio, President of the 10th Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
In a statement jointly signed by Uduak Essien (President, Canada) and Mary Enang (Secretary, United Kingdom), the group accused Mrs. Patience Akpabio of maligning the Senate President through “unfounded allegations” and “reckless social media utterances,” warned that her actions had deeply offended the cultural and moral sensibilities of the Annang people.
“Annang Women Advocacy Network will not stand idly by while you attempt to pull down our community, its values, and our illustrious son,” the statement read. “Desist immediately from your abominable acts and withdraw your venomous allegations before it’s too late.”
The group, which represent Annang women at home and in the diaspora, cautioned Mrs. Akpabio that continued defamation could attract the traditional cultural sanction known as “ngwo ntie” a form of communal ostracism imposed on women deemed to have committed grave offenses against the land or its people.
According to AWANI, such a sanction would mean total social and economic isolation, including exclusion from markets, business dealings, and community interactions within Annang land and beyond.
“Annang land will cease to be fruitful for you,” the statement warned. “You cannot buy or sell in our markets or benefit in any way from Annang and her people. You would be ostracized.”
The women further described Mrs. Akpabio’s conduct as “a sin against both God and man,” condemned her alleged public insults against Senator Akpabio as a disgrace to family values and womanhood.
“As mothers, wives, and daughters, we are deeply aggrieved that a wife would become the mouthpiece for scandal against her own family,” the statement continued. “Your actions are a direct affront to the respect and decorum we hold sacred in Annang land.”
AWANI urged Mrs. Patience Akpabio to immediately end her “treacherous campaign” against the Senate President and tender an unreserved apology or face what they termed “dire spiritual and social consequences.”
“Let this be the final word from the mothers and daughters of Annang land,” the group concluded. “Heed this warning, retrace your steps, and make amends.”
