The Good Governance Team (GGTNigeria) has marked the 2025 International Anti-Corruption Day with a bold call for a youth-driven integrity revolution, stressing that young Nigerians hold the decisive power to reshape the nation’s future by rejecting corruption at all levels.
In a statement issued in Abuja, Convener of GGTNigeria, Tunde Salman, said the global observance held annually on December 9 serves as a reminder of the far-reaching damage caused by corruption and the urgent need for united action to confront it. He noted that this year’s theme, “Uniting with Youth Against Corruption: Shaping Tomorrow’s Integrity,” reinforced the central role of young people in building societies anchored on fairness, justice, and transparency.
Salman emphasised that with more than half of the world’s population under 30, youths are not only future leaders but active, influential citizens whose voices and choices can determine the direction of governance and accountability. He warned that corruption continues to undermine development, weaken institutions, widen inequality, and erode public trust impacts felt most directly by young people.
GGTNigeria urged government institutions to strengthen anti-corruption systems, enforce laws without bias, and prioritise transparency. It also called on civil society and the media to expand public awareness and deepen accountability, while advocating the promotion of values such as honesty and responsibility within families, communities, and schools.
Salman encouraged young Nigerians to speak out, demand fairness, and use their platforms to challenge corrupt practices, insisting that societal change requires courage, vigilance, and active participation. He further urged the private sector to uphold ethical standards, improve compliance systems, and support youth engagement in integrity-building initiatives.
Reaffirming its commitment to transparency and governance reform, GGTNigeria pledged to continue empowering young people through civic education, community engagement, and partnerships with local organisations, youth groups, and educational institutions.
Salman concluded by urging all stakeholders to unite in building a nation where accountability becomes the norm and integrity defines the next generation.
