The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has elected Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda as its new National Chairman. His emergence was ratified on Wednesday at the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the party held at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Professor Yilwatda succeeded Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, who recently resigned from the position.
Until his election, Prof. Yilwatda served as the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development. A former governorship candidate of the APC in the 2023 Plateau State gubernatorial election, he brings a blend of academic, administrative, and political experience to the leadership of the party.
He previously served as Director of Information and Communication Technology at the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi; Resident Electoral Commissioner in Benue State from 2017 to 2021; and Director-General of the Plateau State Tinubu-Shettima Campaign Council in the 2023 general elections.
In a statement issued shortly after the meeting, APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, congratulated the new party chairman and expressed confidence in his ability to reposition the APC for greater national impact.
“We welcome and congratulate our National Chairman on his election, and pray God, in His mercies, to grant him wisdom and grace to lead our great party to greater heights,” Morka stated.
Prof. Yilwatda has officially assumed duties at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja.
