APC slams PDP for politicizing stampede Tragedies

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has condemned the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for allegedly exploiting recent stampede tragedies in Oyo, Anambra, and the Federal Capital Territory for political gain.

In a press statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the ruling party accused the PDP of insensitivity and engaging in “callous political chicanery” during a period of national mourning.

The stampedes, which occurred during charity and palliative distribution events, claimed several lives and left many injured. While expressing condolences to the victims and their families, the APC criticized the PDP for blaming the incidents on the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“The tragedies have brought together all well-meaning Nigerians in mourning and sober reflection. It is grossly indecent, insensitive, and despicable for the PDP to exploit these tragic incidents in a senseless attack against the administration,” the statement read.

The APC further accused the PDP of hypocrisy, citing the 2014 Immigration Service recruitment tragedy under the PDP-led government, which resulted in the deaths of desperate job seekers.

Highlighting its achievements, the APC defended the Tinubu administration’s policies, including investments in alternative energy, the Credit Corps Scheme, Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), upward salary reviews, and grants for farmers and small businesses. It emphasized the administration’s commitment to economic reforms and rebuilding Nigeria’s economy.

“President Bola Tinubu embarked on the boldest and most courageous programme of reform to rebuild our country’s economy and dismantle obstacles to true prosperity,” the APC stated, adding that the economy was rebounding steadily.

The party also praised President Tinubu for canceling his scheduled activities to honor the victims, reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to Nigerians’ welfare.

Meanwhile, the APC has extended its condolences to the families affected and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
