The Executive Secretary of the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria (ARCN), Dr. Abubakar Adamu Dabban, has reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to strengthening biosafety standards and promoting sustainable agricultural practices across the country.
Dr. Dabban made the remark during a familiarization visit to the National Biosafety Management Agency (NBMA), facilitated by the Open Forum on Agricultural Biotechnology (OFAB) Nigeria Chapter, an initiative of the African Agricultural Technology Foundation (AATF), and held under the auspices of the National Biotechnology Development Agency (NABDA).
The engagement brought together CEOs and key players in the agricultural biotechnology and biosafety ecosystem to deepen understanding of their respective roles, responsibilities, and expectations in Nigeria’s biosafety framework.
According to Dr. Dabban, ARCN remains steadfast in ensuring that agricultural innovations are developed and deployed responsibly to enhance national food security while maintaining public and environmental safety.
The meeting focused on improving communication among stakeholders, strengthening collaboration, and creating a shared understanding of biosafety regulations and compliance standards. Participants also used the platform to address emerging concerns and set the foundation for stronger inter-agency cooperation in advancing safe biotechnology practices.
The forum is expected to foster continuous dialogue and coordinated efforts among regulatory bodies, research institutions, and development partners towards ensuring a robust biosafety culture
