Arochukwu/Ohafia 2027: Ogbonna Ignites Rally as Kalu Leads APC Unity Drive in Abia

A high-profile political rally in Abia State turned into a vibrant show of strength for the All Progressives Congress (APC) as businessman and grassroots politician, Ifeanyi Elvis Ogbonna, drew massive enthusiasm from party faithful at a strategic stakeholders’ meeting convened by Senator Orji Uzor Kalu.

The event, held on March 13 at Camp Neya in Igbere Kalu’s country home brought together key figures within the APC under a tripartite platform comprising the OUK Movement, the Reality Organisation, and the party structure in the state. The gathering, described as a first-quarter strategic meeting, aimed to reinforce unity, deepen grassroots mobilisation, and address concerns over alleged internal divisions following the party’s recent congresses at various levels.

Top party stakeholders in attendance included Abia APC State Secretary, Chief Chidi Avajah, and former Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Chinedum Orji, alongside leaders of the OUK Movement and Reality Organisation.

The atmosphere shifted dramatically upon the arrival of Ifeanyi Ogbonna, popularly known as “Ignes,” as supporters erupted into chants and cheers, momentarily disrupting proceedings. Dressed in white traditional attire with a red cap, Ogbonna was greeted by a surge of supporters who thronged the venue in excitement, chanting in their native dialect and hailing him as a preferred political figure. Security personnel were briefly called in to restore order as he made his way to his seat. The excitement intensified when he was invited to speak, drawing loud applause from the crowd.

In his remarks, Ogbonna emphasized unity, loyalty, and collective resolve as the APC prepares for the 2027 general elections. He commended Senator Kalu for bringing stakeholders together and stressed the importance of collaboration among party structures, noting that unity within the APC and its affiliated support groups would be critical to securing electoral victories. His speech resonated strongly with attendees, setting the tone for the meeting as party leaders reiterated their commitment to cohesion and strategic mobilisation.

Several party members and supporters who spoke with journalists attributed the overwhelming reception accorded Ogbonna to his sustained contributions to grassroots mobilisation and support for party activities, particularly in Arochukwu and Ohafia. Many described him as a leading contender for the 2027 House of Representatives seat for Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency, citing his widespread acceptance and political influence.

Further strengthening his position, a frontline support group, the Concerned Progressives of Arochukwu and Ohafia, formally endorsed his candidacy. In a statement signed by its General Secretary, Engr. Ifeanyi Iheaka, the group warned that denying Ogbonna the party ticket could jeopardise the APC’s chances in the constituency. They described him as a consensus candidate with cross-party appeal and strong grassroots support.

Addressing speculations of factionalism, Chief Chidi Avajah dismissed claims of divisions within the party, insisting that the APC in Abia remains united. Chinedum Orji also reaffirmed loyalty to the party leadership and urged members to remain focused on collective goals.

In his address, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu reiterated the importance of unity and political engagement, dismissing reports of discord within the party and denying any rift with Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu. He expressed confidence that the APC would secure victory across Abia State in 2027, including delivering the state for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Reflecting on the 2023 elections, he urged party members to intensify efforts, stating that the party must unite and demonstrate stronger commitment ahead of the next polls.

The rally concluded with renewed assurances of unity and collective resolve, as party leaders and stakeholders pledged to close ranks and intensify mobilisation efforts across the state. Political observers say the event not only reaffirmed Senator Kalu’s influence within the APC but also highlighted the rising political profile of Ifeanyi Ogbonna as a key figure in the party’s future in Abia State.
